April 12 is National DEAR Day -- DROP EVERYTHING AND READ!

Celebrated each year on beloved children's author Beverly Cleary's birthday, DEAR Day reminds and encourages families to take time to read together every day. This year's DEAR Day is especially meaningful, as Cleary passed away on March 25, 2021 at the age of 104. Honor her legacy by celebrating DEAR Day with us today. We created this fun video featuring many notable Athenians demonstrating how they DROP EVERYTHING AND READ.

Chromebooks now available for check out!

chromebookLibrary card holders ages 18 and up can now check out a Chromebook for seven days at Athens Regional Library System branches. The Chromebooks must be returned in person inside the library at the end of the lending period. For patrons who may not have reliable internet access at home, our libraries also offer free wi-fi access available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in our parking lots and in our buildings during our Grab and Go hours. The Chromebook lending program is partially assisted with funds from the Library Services and Technology Act through the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Message from the Director

message from the directorUPDATED March 20, 2021

Dear Library User,
It is hard to believe that one year ago, we were forced to close our buildings due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We can never express our sincere thanks to our patrons for their understanding and support as we made every attempt to keep our staff, patrons, and community safe from the spread of this deadly virus.
We are so pleased to see the light and the end of the tunnel! While the Vision of the library, “Engaging Communities, Exceeding Expectations” was our North Star for service throughout this year, we will be glad to have our doors open and our hours restored once again. Please read the full Message from the Director here.
