Café au Libris with Dr. J. Drew Lanham

Photo of Dr. Drew Lanham

Monday, November 28, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
In Appleton Auditorium

Join us for a conversation and reading with J. Drew Lanham, author of The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man's Love Affair with Nature.

Growing up on his family's land in South Carolina, J. Drew Lanham fell in love with the subtle beauties of the natural world around him—and grew up to be one of the lone black men in a predominantly white field. This memoir is a riveting exploration of the contradictions of black identity in the rural South, asking what it means to be "the rare bird, the oddity."

Book cover of The Home Place

A native of Edgefield, South Carolina, Dr. Lanham is a birder, naturalist, hunter-conservationist, and an Alumni Distinguished Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Master Teacher at Clemson University.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Athens-Clarke County Library, the UGA Environmental Ethics Certificate Program, and the Athens Land Trust, and with the participation of: UGA Odum School of Ecology, Georgia Ornithological Society and Oconee Rivers Audubon Society.

Reception, book sales and signing after author presentation. Book sales benefit the Library through the Friends.
