No, No, Kitten!

Most cats want milk, catnip, and nothing to do with dogs, but the feline heroine of No, No, Kitten! wants to take a trip to Jupiter with her puppy friend. Her young owner turns down many requests for helmets and rockets until, finally, Kitten takes matters into her own paws. Fans of Mo Willems's Pigeon books will delight in this fun read-aloud that will have children calling out "No, No, Kitten!" along with the kitten's owner.

Pardon Me!

Pardon Me! by Daniel Miyares is one of my new favorite books. The book narrates a small bird's struggle to get some peace and quiet. It's a seemingly simple story with minimal words and illustrations but is very sophisticated and subtle. It's akin to Jon Klassen's I Want My Hat Back and This is Not My Hat, so any fans of children's books that are a bit grim with a wonderfully bleak sense of humor absolutely must read this book immediately.

i carry your heart with me

  • By e. e. cummings and Mati Rose McDonough
  • Call number: JE CUMMINGS
  • check the catalog
  • Recommended for ages: 2-6

This moving picture book is based on the poem of the same name by e.e. cummings. It is a wonderful visual interpretation of cummings's famous poem, which illustrator Mati Rose McDonough appropriately likens to the love that a mother has for her child. As the poem unfolds, the mom shows her child all the wonders of the world and truly convinces the reader of the intense, all-encompassing, and ceaseless bond a mother has with her child.
