Sebastian and the Balloon

One night, a boy named Sebastian decides to leave his home and "see something new for a change." He takes everything he will ever need along with him in a balloon he built from afghans and quilts, sharing pickle sandwiches with a variety of new friends he meets during his journey. Beautiful illustrations accompany Philip C. Stead’s wonderful, imaginative tale of adventure for young readers.

The Right Word: Roget and His Thesaurus

"The Right Word" is a unique tale about Peter Mark Roget and the creation of his thesaurus. While the story itself is about a boy who loves words and collects them like stamps or baseball cards and creates lists to get him through an isolated childhood, the illustrations are just as intriguing in that they are intricate piles of images layered on top of one another to create a kind of visual thesaurus to match the story. Just like the subject of the book, Bryant has compiled several lists at the end of the book for more information or further reading. The right word for this book? Awesome! (or interesting or neat or impressive or striking or astonishing or mind-blowing or terrific or unbelievable or excellent or boss or wonderful or whiz-bang or doozie.)
