The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente is a modern classic fairy tale that is impossible to put down or forget. This adventure is just as quirky and delightful as the title suggests and is approved by Neil Gaiman himself. A girl named September is swept to a fantastical land called Fairyland that turns out to be a bit more awful than fantastic. September meets witches, a Wyvern/library hybrid, fairies, genies, a magical key, a woman made of soap, and many more creatures in her quest to save Fairyland and herself. Though this is a middle grade book and is wonderfully suited for its audience, the writing is so clever, complex, and colorful that it is sure to please even the most discerning of adult readers.
