Winter Magic

Book cover of Cajun Night Before Christmas

The holiday season is upon us and there is plenty of magic happening in the Children's Area of the Athens Clarke County Library! From elf training to Hanukkah, we have something for everyone this December. We’ll be kicking off the festivities with a Southern twist, as we share boiled peanuts at our Cajun Night Before Christmas story and craft program.

Later in the month children will be searching for the elusive yeti, celebrating all things Star Wars at our Rogue One Deathstar Party, and discovering the classic story of The Nutcracker for the first time. Make sure you download our December Children’s brochure for a full list of events.

If you’re writing a letter to Santa this year, the Library is the place to be. As an official Santa-Letter-Drop-Off-Site, we’ll be sending your letters on to Santa up until December 21st. Look for the special candy cane striped mail box at the Children’s desk and receive a free sticker when you drop off your letter. Then make sure you join us for an amazing evening with master puppeteer David Stephens, for a special evening puppet show of Santa’s Missing Mail, December 7th at 6:30 p.m.

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on in Santa’s workshop, now is the time to find out. Christmas is around the corner, and Santa is looking for a few new elves to help him prep for the big day! Our certified Elf Training Workshop will get you into tip-top shape. Make your own elf hat, stockings, ornaments, and wrapping paper. Enjoy holiday treats and sing in our Elfin Choir. Each child will graduate from the program with a certificate given out by Santa himself! Thursday, December 8th at 3:30 p.m.
