Dr. Stephen Berry provides a glimpse into Victorian-era coroner's inquests, some of richest records we have of life and death in the nineteenth century South. Using extant coroners' inquests for the state of South Carolina between 1800 and 1900, Dr. Berry will explore how race, place, gender, profession, behavior, and good and bad luck played large roles in how our forebears exited this world. Presented by Athens Historical Society and Athens-Clarke County Library Heritage Room. Some of the program's content may not be suitable for all ages and audiences.
