The Heritage Room and Clarke-Oconee Genealogical Society welcome Donna J. Weathers, Genealogist and Traveler for Genealogy Research-Trip Planning.

Research trips to rural archives and ancestral hometowns can be fun and rewarding. But like any good vacation, a little planning goes a long way. Learn tips and strategies for planning an efficient research trip and common pitfalls to avoid. Whether you are heading to the cemetery, the local history museum, or old Aunt Sally's farm, you will learn valuable insights to make it a productive trip.

Donna is an avid genealogist and traveler. After a 20-year career in the US Navy, she has spent the last seven years researching and volunteering her way around the United States. Currently specializing in the Surfmen of the US Lifesaving Service, Donna was awarded the Steon Shields Genealogy Grant to further share the history of these brave men. She holds the Boston University Genealogical Research Certificate and has attended several week-long genealogy institutes, including IGHR and the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records (GENFED).
