Real life...with a twist

What is Magical Realism?

It isn't the same thing as Fantasy!

Magical Realism originated in Latin America, but is found in literature worldwide. The Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory defines it as:

  • the mingling and juxtaposition of the realistic and the fantastic
  • convoluted and even labyrinthine narratives and plot
  • miscellaneous use of dreams, myths and fairy stories
  • expressionistic and surrealistic description
