We have an immediate opening at the Athens-Clarke County Library for a Digital Media Manager. We seek an enthusiastic, innovative, and flexible individual who enjoys working with a public with varying levels of technical skills.  The successful candidate will proactively search for opportunities to deliver quality, innovative library services that engage the community and exceed expectations. This is a front-facing job which requires excellent customer service and technical skills to assist patrons using the library’s graphic arts programs and specialized equipment located in the Digital Media Center. This position reports to the IT Coordinator/Systems Administrator.


Purpose and Scope 

The Digital Media Manager is a full-time position that is expected to stay abreast of cutting edge and innovative products and services including AI. The Digital Media Manager assists patrons using the library’s graphic arts software and specialized equipment located in the Digital Media Center (DMC). This position provides one-on-one tutorials, classes covering the software and materials used in the DMC, and staff training. The Digital Media Manager works with the Public Information Officer to manage and update the Athens-Clarke County Library and Regional Library websites.  This position will also work with branch staff to help provide STEM workshops for children and teens at branch locations.

Minimum Training and Experience 

Experience in web design, photography, media production, graphic design, or significant computer-related experience, or satisfactory combination of training and experience. Knowledge of both Windows and Mac OS is essential. Extensive knowledge and experience with CMS software (Wordpress preferred) also required. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are normal, but not exclusive, expectations for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned, and duties may change in the future:

  • Manage and update the Regional and Athens-Clarke County Libraries website, including updating calendars, blog posts, and images.
  • Create pages and custom graphics for the website to promote special events.
  • Update and design custom templates for the website.
  • Assist library patrons in the Digital Media Center (DMC) during open hours (typically 20 to 25 hours per week.)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, video editing and music editing
  • Assist with all applications, CD/DVD burners, scanner, 3D printer, professional inkjet printer, digital conversion equipment, and other peripherals for patron use.  
  • Provide one-on-one tutorials for patrons covering software and equipment in the DMC.
  • Provide classes on software and equipment available in the DMC, usually four - six classes per month.
  • Responsible for development, scheduling and implementation of the DMC classes. 
  • Provide instruction and assistance to other staff on software and equipment available in the DMC.
  • Develop STEM learning activities including Lego robotics, stop-motion animation, 3D printing & design, and virtual reality experiences that can be available to all locations in the region
  • Coordinate with the Technology Trainer to provide programs
  • Stay informed about technology trends in libraries and make recommendations for new technology equipment and programs.
  • Ability to learn new technologies in a timely manner
  • Participate in outreach to community events

 

Supervisory and Management Responsibilities

  • Responsible for hiring recommendations and for training, scheduling, and supervision of one part-time staff member in the DMC.
  • Shared responsibility with the Public Relations Department for hiring and training PR/Digital Media Intern.
  • Train and oversee library volunteers as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Skill in upholding the library’s core values; ability to provide external and internal service that is welcoming, committed to excellence, inclusive, and respectful and that supports the community and co-workers.
  • Proficient with Windows and Mac Operating Systems; proficient with Mac software, including Garage Band, iMovie and Photos.
  • Proficient with Adobe CS6 Master Collection; experience with or the ability to learn Final Cut Pro, Corel Painter Essentials, Logic Express 9, Cakewalk Sonar X1 and animation and gaming software.
  • Proficient with HTML and CSS; proficient in PHP, Drupal and Joomla CMS.
  • Experience with 3D printers and design software; experience with or the ability to learn Wacom tablets, Lego robot kits, stop-motion animation software, and HTC Vive VR headset.
  • Experience with digital conversion hardware and software.
  • Ability to envision, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services from start to completion.  
  • Ability to work independently, within established guidelines, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle a busy work environment, remain productive during times of low volume, multitask effectively during busy times and exercise patience and professionalism in all situations. 
  • Ability to maintain a regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with an array of diverse library patrons and staff.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, in English.
  • Physical demand requirements are at levels of Medium Work.
