Athens-Clarke County Library Children's Area Policy and Description of Purpose
The children's area serves children from birth to fifth grade, or age 11, adults who work with children, parents, teachers, and students learning to teach children.
Programming services offered by the children's area include: toddler and preschool Storytimes, storytelling programs, puppet shows, guest presenters from the community, programs for groups such as nursery schools, day-care centers, after-school groups, scout and church groups, groups serving children with special needs, parents and child-literacy groups, and tours of the children's area and the library. The staff will take programs to Athens-Clarke County elementary public and private schools and publicly-funded camps (such as Sandy Creek, Memorial Park, and Project Reach).
The Story Room within the children's area is for the presentation of library programs. It is not available for bookings by community groups or individuals. If a class or group of children of the appropriate age is brought to the library and they do not desire a story program from the children's staff, the Story Room can be opened so the group leader can read a story to the children.
