Draw on it. Stamp it. Press it. Cut it. Connect it. Make a keepsake box out of clay. Lavonia-Carnegie Library will offer a free 2-day ceramics workshop on Saturdays, February 10 and 17, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Lavonia Community Center, 39 Poole Street. Blue Haven Bee Company potter Andrew Brown, a graduate of the ceramics program at the University of Georgia, will lead the workshop.
The first lesson will offer a review of clay work basics. Students will build their relief on a clay slab, using found objects to create texture and visual depth. In the second lesson, students will paint or sponge on glazes to complete their masterpiece. The clay pieces will then be fired for later pick up at the library.
This workshop is funded by a Vibrant Communities arts grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts and by the Friends of Lavonia Library. The cost is free to participants, and all materials are included. Space is limited. Registration is required. Must be at least 14 years of age. Call 706-356-4307 or visit the Lavonia-Carnegie Library to register.
