Local children’s author Elaine Rodgers will be here for a storytime with her book “The OH-NO Christmas Tree” and the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter will have adoptable pets on site.

MADISON COUNTY LIBRARY NEWS - December 2018

On Display: Adopt a Santa Bear from the Jere Ayers case and support the Friends of the Madison County Library! All Santa Bears are $10 and come with an adoption certificate.

Friends News: Our booth at the Danielsville Harvest Festival made over $200! Thanks to all who stopped by. Executive Board Meeting Tuesday, December 11 at 6:00 PM.

Holiday Market: We are currently in need of donations of winter and Christmas items for the holiday market.  Bring your new or gently used decorative items to the front desk.

Author Visit with Mike Buffington: Sunday, December 2, 3:00 PM Local author Mr. Buffington will discuss his new nonfiction book, “A Conspiracy of Silence” and have copies to sign and sell. Reception to follow.

Needlecrafters: Tuesdays, 1:00 – 3:00 PM Anyone interested is invited to bring along your materials to work on (or just your curiosity) for a relaxing time of sharing and learning about hand crafts.

Computer Classes: Tuesdays, 2:30 & 6:30 PM Join Technology Specialist Camden Joiner and learn computer basics this month!  Space is limited; please call to register.

Preschool & Toddler Story Time: Wednesdays at 10:30 AM Stories, songs, finger-plays and simple crafts to foster a life-long love of reading.  Appropriate for children ages birth to 5 years. This month's themes are “Red & Green,” “Dressed for Winter,” and “Holiday.”

Beginning Readers’ Club: Wednesdays at 4:00 PM Early literacy activities and stories. Ages 3-5 and their caregivers.

Inclusive Book Club: Thursdays, December 6, 13, and 20, 1:00 PM This book club for adults of all abilities will read out loud and discuss a book together.

Chill Out & Read: Fridays in December Drop in all day for a cozy reading break with warm drinks and holiday treats!  

Elementary Storytime: Fridays, December 7 & 21, 4:30 PM  Stories and a craft for ages 6-10 and their caregiver.

Calligraphy Class: Sunday, December 9, 3:00 PM Join Mike Moak for this class on lettering, to be held the second Sunday this month!  Space is limited; please call to register.

Adult Book Club: Tuesday, December 11, 6:30 PM Join us for lively discussion of “Burial Rites” by Hannah Kent and pick up a book for next month!

Senior Center Singalong: Thursday, December 13, 10:00 AM Staff will visit the Madison County Senior Center to sing Christmas songs!  All are welcome to join.

Read to Rover: Sunday, December 16, 3:00-4:00 PM Beginning readers read aloud to therapy dogs, aka a “Tail-Waggin’ Tutor!”  First come, first served.

YA Gingerbread Zombies: Sunday, December 16, 4:30 PM Ages 10 & up can join Ms. Carley for a twist on a traditional Christmas cookie and decorate your own gingerbread zombie.

ESL Conversation Practice: Tuesday, December 18, 6:30 PM Conversation for people with all levels of English language ability.  Conversacion para personas de todos los niveles de habilidades en ingles.

Christmas Movie and Hot Chocolate: Thursday, December 20, 2:00 PM Join us for a family film and a warm drink!

Yule Sticks: Friday, December 21, 2:00 PM You can’t bring a log into the library!  Make a Yule stick to celebrate the solstice instead!  All materials provided.

LEGO Club: Thursday, December 27, 4:30 PM Join us in creating LEGO art and enjoying LEGO-based games and activities. No need to bring your own bricks! Open to children ages 8 and up.

Pajama Story Time: Thursday, December 27, 7:00 PM Enjoy bedtime stories and a light snack. Ages birth to 7.

Noon Year’s Eve Party: Monday, December 31, 11:30 AM Countdown till noon with us!  Snacks, crafts, games, and activities to celebrate the coming New Year!  All ages.
