MADISON COUNTY LIBRARY NEWS - November 2018

Friends News:  Visit our booth at the Danielsville Harvest Festival on Saturday, November 3! Donate blood here on November 29 and the Red Cross will pay for your next year’s Friends membership!  Limited to first 20 donors.

Holiday Market: We are currently in need of donations of fall and Halloween items for the holiday market.  Bring your new or gently used decorative items to the front desk.

On Display: Art from Abby Newland’s classes at Madison County High School in the display cases, and art from the kindergarten classes of Comer Elementary in the Jere Ayers room.

Inclusive Book Club: Thursdays, November 1, 8, and 15, 1:00 PM This book club for adults of all abilities will read out loud and discuss a book together.

Author Visit with Ruby Mae O’Dell: Sunday, November 4, 3:00 PM Christian mystery/romance author Ruby Mae O’Dell will speak about her “Faith in the Valley” series and have copies to sign and sell.  Reception to follow.

Needlecrafters: Tuesdays, 1:00 – 3:00 PM Anyone interested is invited to bring along your materials to work on (or just your curiosity) for a relaxing time of sharing and learning about hand crafts.

Computer Classes: Tuesdays, 2:30 & 6:30 PM Meet our new Technology Specialist Camden Joiner and learn computer basics this month!  Space is limited; please call to register.

Preschool & Toddler Story Time: Wednesdays at 10:30 AM Stories, songs, finger-plays and simple crafts to foster a life-long love of reading.  Appropriate for children ages birth to 5 years. This month's themes are “Train,” “Harvest,” and “Owl.”

Beginning Readers’ Club: Wednesdays at 4:00 PM Join Ms. Carley for early literacy activities and stories. Ages 3-5 and their caregivers.

Elementary Storytime: Fridays, November 9 & 16, 4:30 PM  Stories and a craft for ages 6-10 and their caregiver.

Calligraphy Class: Sunday, November 11, 3:00 PM Join Mike Moak for this class on lettering, to be held the second Sunday this month!  Space is limited; please call to register.

Veterans Day Tea: Sunday, November 11, 4:00 PM Tea, coffee, and donuts to honor our service members!  All are welcome.

Morse Code Beading: Monday, November 12, 4:30 PM Make a bracelet with your name or other message color-coded with Morse code!  Ages 6 and up.

Adult Book Club: Tuesday, November 13, 6:30 PM Join us for lively discussion of Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and pick up a book for next month!

LEGO Club: Thursday, November 15, 4:30 PM Join us in creating LEGO art and enjoying LEGO-based games and activities. No need to bring your own bricks! Open to children ages 8 and up.  

Make a Button: Friday, November 16 Make a one-of-a-kind button with our supplies!  All day long.

Family Movie and Craft: Saturday, November 17, 2:00 PM Watch a short Thanksgiving movie and make a craft!  All ages.

Read to Rover: Sunday, November 18, 3:00-4:00 PM Beginning readers read aloud to therapy dogs, aka a “Tail-Waggin’ Tutor!”  First come, first served.

In-between the Lines Book Club: Monday, November 19, 4:30 PM Discuss Pax by Sara Pennypacker and pick a book for next month!  Ages 8-12.

Teen Movie: Saturday, November 24, 2:00 PM Watch a good book in this recently-released, PG-13 flick!  Popcorn and drinks provided. Call for title.

Dulcimer Group: Monday, November 26, 6:30 PM Got dulcimer?  Join the “Dirty Dulcimers” led by Marty Phillips for a good time learning to read and play music together!

YA Book Club: Tuesday, November 27, 4:30 PM Discuss The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.

Red Cross Blood Drive Promotion Event: Thursday, November 29, 2:00-7:00 PM Give the gift of life this holiday season by donating blood at our drive!  The Red Cross will sponsor membership in the Friends of the Madison County Library for the first 20 to sign up – a $10 value!  Call the library to register or for more information.

Pajama Story Time: Thursday, November 29, 7:00 PM Enjoy bedtime stories and a light snack. Ages birth to 7.

The Madison County Library announces a visit from Christian fiction author Ruby Mae O’Dell on Sunday, November 4 at 3:00 PM.

Ruby Mae O’Dell, of historic Washington, Georgia, has published three novels in her Christian mystery/romance series “Faith in the Valley.”  She will speak about the series and have copies of all three novels available to sign and sell. Reception to follow.

This program is free and open to the public of all ages and abilities.
