D.I.Y. Program - For Teens

Teens crafting together.

Throughout November

Locate the D.I.Y box located in the YA (young adult) section of the library. Each month the D.I.Y. box will contain supplies, suggestions, and examples of a craft project that you can come to library and create any time during the month of November. Once you have completed the craft, you are welcome to take your creation home with you. Bring a friend and make an afternoon of it. Don't forget to sign the log so that we know that you enjoyed the program. This month features DIY bookmarks.

Bookfacing Contest - For Teens

Bookface Contest example.

Throughout November

All teens, ages 13 to 18, can enter our Bookface contest simply by matching your face up with any book cover that has a face on it and taking a picture. Example books that would be excellent choices for this contest will be on display in the YA (young adult) section of the library. Use your phone or another digital camera to take a photo of your bookface and send it as a message to the library’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/OglethorpeCountyLibrary, or email it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and a librarian will post it for you. You will also have an opportunity to have your picture taken by the librarian at any of the other teen events scheduled throughout the month. All photos taken or submitted will be posted to the library’s blog and Facebook page, and entered into the contest for a chance to win a gift card to local Athens book store, Avid Bookshop! Library patrons and staff members will vote on their favorite bookfaces by “liking” them on the library’s Facebook page. The bookface photo with the most likes at the end of October wins the prize. For ideas on this new trend, check out examples on our Facebook page or visit http://librarybookface.tumblr.com/ for ideas from another public library.
