Young Adult Skills Class for Teens

Drawing of a computer.

Wednesday, September 11, 4:30 p.m.

This class requires you to already have an email address. Bringing your own laptop is strongly encouraged, but not required.

Teens, do you have a school project or presentation coming up? Are you tired of traditional PowerPoint presentations? Would you like to WOW your teachers and classmates with something different? Come to this free class to learn how to make amazing multimedia presentations using Prezi, a web-based alternative to PowerPoint! This cool alternative presentation tool steps away from the concept of slides and into an unlimited canvas format that allows you to easily map out your presentation as ideas come to you. This tool is also excellent for group projects and collaborations, allowing multiple people to work on a presentation simultaneously! This web-based tool requires an email address to register for a free Prezi account. Teens are encouraged to bring their own laptop computer with them in order to follow along during the class. Those without a laptop are still welcome to attend and listen. How-To instructions in the form of a handout will be provided for everyone who attends!

Bookface Contest for Teens!

From Sunday, September 1 to Sunday, September 29

Teens ages 13 to 18, match your face up with a book cover that has a face on it! Example books that would be good for this contest will be on display in the YA section of the library. Use your phone or another camera to take a photo of your bookface and send it as a message to the library’s Facebook page, or email it to the librarian to post at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . All photos submitted will be posted to the library's blog and Facebook page, and entered into the contest for the chance to win a gift card to a local Athens book store! Library patrons and staff members will vote on their favorite bookfaces by "liking" them on the library Facebook page. The bookface with the most likes on September 30th wins the prize! For ideas, check out this example from another public library at
