The Dragon Dreamer is science fantasy with flying dragons and an undersea world, for middle grade and young adult readers. It's a tale of two worlds with action, adventure, and an unexpected friendship.
Arak, a young flying dragon, crashes on a remote ice floe. He suffers serious injuries and the loss of his trance-stone. A fearless, shape-shifting octopus named Scree finds and heals him. An unexpected friendship begins. When an undersea volcano erupts, it triggers a towering tsunami and a deadly chain of events. Can Arak use his unique talents and alliances to save the dragons?
The Dragon Dreamer by J.S. Burke blends imagination with real science and author experiences. This novel grew from her years at sea as a marine biologist, a fascination with the alien, intelligent octopuses, and a love of dragons. J.S. Burke is the author of five marine research papers in science journals. She also holds masters' degrees in marine science and math/science education, and certification to teach middle grades, high school math and science, and gifted. Two science education book/kits that she authored are used in school systems and sold in catalogs. A third art/science/math activities book uses her dragon-snowflake designs. She lives in Georgia with her family and two pet rescue rabbits.
