Michael C. Carlos Museum Pass
Georgia Public Library System has partnered with the Michael C. Carlos Museum. Patrons can check out a family pass at their local library, which covers up to six admissions to the museum.
The Carlos Museum is now one of the Southeast's premier ancient art museums with major collections of art objects from ancient Egypt, Nubia, Near East, Greece, Rome, ancient Americas, Africa, and Asia, as well as a collection of works on paper from the Renaissance to the present.
The Museum also features traveling exhibits throughout the year:
In Search of Noble Marbles: The Earliest Travelers to Greece
January 14 – April 9, 2017
Discover the earliest published accounts of intrepid English, French, and Dutch explorers who visited Greece in the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries and were moved to record their experiences in print. These publications reveal an organic growth of knowledge about Greece, from seventeenth-century fantasies familiar from Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” to the scholarly mapping out and minute recording of inscriptions and monuments. Visit the exhibit webpage for more information.
Desire and Consumption: The New World in the Age of Shakespeare
January 14 - April 9, 2017
Although Shakespeare set “The Tempest” on a small island off the coast of Italy, many scholars argue that he drew inspiration for the setting, several narrative themes, and the figure of Caliban from the newly encountered Americas. "Desire and Consumption" will explore this argument by pairing the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library's Fourth Folio with several engravings from Theodor de Bry’s "Americae" volumes. Visit the exhibit webpage for more information.
